Higher Education
Project Scope
No one mechanical system is perfect for every building on an educational campus. So many types of buildings and application requirements are a dream for any design engineer looking for a challenge. Building automation, air-side HVAC systems, and hydronic system components all have their places in perfect campus design. Fortunately, we can help with all of those!
- Diverse spaces: Campuses have classrooms, offices, housing, laboratories, data centers, clean rooms, libraries, performance arts facilities, hazardous waste disposal, power plants, dining facilities, recreation complexes and more. Some buildings have ancient systems that need appropriate retrofit equipment and others are still in design with the latest in LEED standards. University and college HVAC systems are never, ever cookie cutter.
- Occupancy requirements: As with most of the applications we see, university occupancy rates ebb and flow. Housing might be full at 2 a.m. on a Monday and a ghost town at 10:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. Classrooms that are bustling at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays may have one or two students on the weekends.
- Energy requirements: Campuses have massive energy needs that fluctuate with the time of year, the day of the week, and with the seasons.
